[Phenomenal Women] In Conversation with Ekta Sharma

What was the first ever piece of art you made?

I was obsessed with drawing cartoon characters- Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and more. That’s my earliest memory of art. 🙂

What is the most exciting thing about being a female artist in today’s world?

It’s been about eight years since I started making art. Many exhibitions and awards later, what still excites me is a blank canvas. I think it’s the same for a lot of artists whether male or female in today’s world. It’s also great to see how connected the world is now. It makes connecting to fellow artists and finding out about opportunities a far more easier process for artists like me.

What mantra would you offer a woman aspiring to be artist?

As someone whose sole passion is art, I would consider your dedication to it an essential ingredient. Make art because you love it and enjoy it because when you lose sight of that, art stops being honest. Patience is something that is really important too because recognition and feedback cannot really be seen as a given.
